Because the party that wins, i.e. the party that has more members in the parliament, dominates. One party has more role in making the law. The House of Representatives decides which law to vote on. The Senate then approves or blocks those laws. Along with this, the Senate confirms the persons appointed by the President. The Senate also investigates the President when necessary. For the past two years, President Joe Biden’s Democratic Party has won the majority in the House of Representatives with 221 seats. However, there was tough competition in the Senate. Here the Republican Party has got 50 seats and the Democratic Party has got 48 seats. Two independent seats remained with the support of the Biden government. Therefore, this election is no less than an ordeal for Biden.
If Biden’s Democratic Party wins the midterm elections, he will be able to advance his climate change and health care agenda. Furthermore, they can protect against the end of the right to abortion. Also, stricter laws against gun violence can be introduced. But if Donald Trump’s Republican Party wins, it will put an end to Biden’s agenda. In addition, he will also control the investigation committee.

In the initial stage, the candidates of both the major parties go to the public and get re-nominated in their respective parties based on their popularity. This is said because its popularity of Biden has decreased in the last few months. They have been held responsible for inflation, corona disorder, and fuel price increase. At a rally in Sioux City, Trump made it clear that he plans to run for the US presidential election in 2024. He said – I can stand for re-election to make the country safe. I want to tell you all to be ready. Earlier in an interview, he had said – ‘Many people will be happy after I contest the election. So they want me to stand in the election. My popularity is more. I am ahead in all kinds of surveys and polls on presidential candidates.
On the one hand, while Trump is making up his mind to run again in the presidential election, on the other hand, Biden’s party does not want to make him a candidate for re-election. In May 2022, Biden’s own party approval rating dropped 9% to just 73%. The party is looking for a new face. Steve Simonides, a member of the Democratic Committee, also says that Biden should announce that he will not run in 2024 only after the midterm elections. Biden will be 82 years old in the next presidential election. Biden’s opponents say that at this age, it will be difficult for him to run against a leader like Trump.
