Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Kathmandu Metropolitan mayor have discussed about waste management today. During a meeting with Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi Shrestha at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar, mayor Shakya said that it was difficult to pick up garbage due to the deterioration of the road. Similarly, he telephoned Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and instructed him to make necessary arrangements to strengthen peace and security.
Commenting on the discussions after the meeting, Mayor Shakya said that immediate and sustainable solutions to waste management were discussed. “During the meeting with Prime Minister Deuba, we have requested the government to complete the construction of the landfill site of Banchare Danda as soon as possible and create an environment for handing over,” said Shakya. Accordingly, I asked for time to meet him. The date of the meeting has been fixed today. The conversation has been positive. The cost of construction of the road to Sisdol is ready.
In a letter sent to Prime Minister Deuba by mayor Shakya, it has been mentioned that the construction work of Banchare Danda Sanitary Landfill Side has not been completed yet and the road leading to the site has not been completed yet. “In this case, I request you to complete the construction of Banchare Danda landfill site and the road leading to that side immediately and take necessary action with priority to facilitate waste management in the Kathmandu Valley,” the letter said.
Under normal circumstances, the site, which can reach 150 trucks daily, now has a maximum of 50 trucks. Due to this the amount of garbage on the roads of the valley is increasing now.
