Counting of proportional votes towards the end: CPN-UML’s wide lead, loss of 28 seats due to party split

Kathmandu. The counting of votes for proportional representation in the House of Representatives has reached the final stage. According to the latest voting results, it has been decided that 7 parties will become the national party. So far, CPN-UML has secured 27 lakh 73 thousand 999 votes out of 1 crore 3 lakh 82 thousand 85 votes and has maintained its lead. The Nepali Congress in the second place got 26 lakh 44 thousand 241 votes, while the Maoists in the third place got 11 lakh 61 thousand 256 votes.

Similarly, it has been determined that the Rashtriya Swatantra Party will get 11 lakh 19 thousand 996 votes, the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party 5 lakh 85 thousand 921, the Janata Samajwadi Party 4 lakh 20 thousand 931 and the Janamat Party 3 lakh 94 thousand 345 votes. The CPN United Samajwadi Party led by Madhav Nepal, which is in eighth place, is struggling to cut the threshold. CPN S has so far brought 294 thousand 63 votes. To cut the threshold, 3 percent of the Sadar votes should be cut. Similarly, Civil Immunity Party got 271 thousand 658 votes and Democratic Samajwadi Party got 167 thousand 278 votes.

The UML has lost at least 28 seats in the House of Representatives alone due to the split of the CPN-UML party into the Unified Socialists. If the votes received by both parties and candidates were not split, UML would have won 17 more seats directly and four seats proportionally. UML is in second place with 44 seats in 162 out of 165 direct results. Counting continues in Bajura, Syangja, and Dolakha. Similarly, according to the results till Thursday night, it seems that UML will get 34 seats proportionally. It is estimated that UML will win 78 seats from both sides.

On the direct side, the Congress has already won 55 seats and is leading in Bajura and Syangja. It is estimated that Congress will get 32 seats, which is about 130,000 votes less than the UML. Congress is sure to become the first party to do both.

UML lost those seats by a margin of 100 to 3000 votes when the United Samajwadi party led by Madhav Nepal lost their votes due to the party split. Although Samajwadi has won 10 seats directly, it is struggling to cut the threshold proportionally as the counting of votes is nearing its end. 17 constituencies were lost by the UML, which suffered damage due to the split, winning 24 seats out of the 10 won by the United Samajwadi Party, the total number of votes shows that it will win 68 seats. UML has won 44 seats directly so far.

Likewise, it seems that UML can increase four more seats proportionally by adding the nearly three lakh votes obtained by the Integrated Socialists. According to the results so far, UML is expected to get 34 seats proportionally. In this way, it can be estimated from the results that UML will be the first party by winning about 106 seats directly and proportionally. In such a situation, UML would not have enough 32 seats to get a majority to form the government.

UML has lost 6 seats in Province 1 including Morang 1, Sunsari 4, Bhojpur, Tehrathum, Khotang, and Udaipur 2 due to a party split. Similarly, in Madhes, two seats, Dhanusha 2 and Rautahat 4, have been lost. Bhaktapur 2, Kathmandu 7, and 10 lost three seats in Bagmati. Navalparasi East has lost only 2 in Gandaki. Dang 2 in Lumbini, Dailekh 2 in Karnali, and Mugu have been lost. In the same way, Kailali lost 4 and 5 in Far West.
