Islamabad. The inflation rate in Pakistan has reached 25 percent. Due to a lack of flour, there is a commotion here. The supply of subsidized flour is over. Because of this, the government has been providing packets of flour at a low price to the people in various parts of the country. Due to the extreme shortage of flour, 4 people died while trying to buy cheap flour.
On Saturday, in the Mirpur Khas district of Sindh state, a crowd gathered at the sight of packets of flour brought in by trucks from the food department. According to Pakistani media, many people have been injured in the clash in the crowd. The 35-year-old laborer died on the spot after being beaten up by the public.
In another incident, a stampede broke out outside a flour mill in Sakarand town of Shaheed Benazirabad district while buying cheap flour. Because of this, three women have died. Demand for flour in Sindh is high and supply is very low. The price of flour in Sindh and Karachi is Rs 140 to 160 per kg. Flour is being sold at a subsidy of Rs 65 per kg. The situation is so bad that people are fighting even for a 5 kg bag.
The situation is worst in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Here, people are looking for such government shops for flour, where a packet is available for Rs 1,000 to 1,500. In fact, the price of a 20 kg packet of flour has reached 3,100 in the open market. A year ago its price was 1100 rupees. On behalf of the government, armed police have been mobilized to prevent accidents during the distribution of flour. Despite this, it is becoming difficult to control the crowd. People are rushing to buy the flour before the packet runs out. This situation has also been seen in Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and Balochistan.
Due to the increase in the price of flour, the people of many areas have taken to the streets against the government. People are also angry because of the loss of life in the stampede. On the death of a laborer in Sindh, opposition leader Haji Adil Sheikh said that the government has failed to provide flour to the people at a low price. Loss of life due to lack of flour is very sad.
In Pakistan, the practice of using gas in plastic bags instead of cylinders for cooking has increased. Gas is being sold by filling bags inside shops connected to the gas pipeline network. People are using it in the kitchen with the help of a small electric suction pump. In fact, natural gas reserves in Pakistan have decreased. Because of this, the government has reduced the supply. Inflation has also increased due to gas shortages. It is difficult for people to buy gas cylinders. Compared to this, it is easy and cheap to buy these bags which are sold illegally.
