Kathmandu. Patan High Court has ordered the release of Sandeep Lamichhane, the former captain of the Nepali national cricket team, on a bond of 2 million rupees. A joint bench of Patan High Court Judges Dhurvaraj Chand and Ramesh Dhakal on Thursday overturned the order of the Kathmandu District Court and ordered the release of Sandeep.
The police arrested Lamichhane on the 20th of August on the charge of raping a sailor and filed a criminal case. Thagindra Kattel, Registrar of Patan High Court informed that Sandeep was ordered to be released on a bond of 2 million rupees.
On Thursday, the Patan High Court overturned the order of the Kathmandu District Court that sent him to prison for pre-trial detention and ordered the release of Sandeep. After registering a case against Sandeep based on the complaint filed by the victim girl, he is incarcerated in Central Jail Sundhara on the orders of District Court Kathmandu. The final decision on the case will be taken from the Kathmandu District Court. Lamichhane will be released tomorrow Friday only, his lawyer said.
