Jerusalem. On January 27, there was an indiscriminate shooting near a place of worship in Jerusalem’s Neve Ya’akov. In which 7 people died and 10 people were injured. After this attack, the Netanyahu government made a big decision regarding the security of the people of Israel. Under this, the laws related to keeping weapons in Israel will be relaxed. So that more and more people can keep weapons with them. The government announced this on Saturday night.
Netanyahu has promised to make it easier for the people of Israel to obtain permits to own guns. Also, those who have illegal weapons will be removed as soon as possible. Netanyahu has warned that anyone who harms the people of Israel will not be spared.
However, the Al Jazeera report mentions that the violence may increase after the loosening of gun laws. Marwan Bishara, a senior political analyst, said that on the one hand, Netanyahu has appealed to the people not to take law and order into their hands after the attack, and he has also relaxed the law to keep weapons. This worsens the situation. National Security Minister Ben-Gavir is said to have had a hand in the decision to loosen gun laws.
In 2015 and 2016, Palestinian militants found new ways to attack Israelis. While walking on the road, they used to throw knives, and sometimes they were hit by vehicles. This type of attack is called the Palestinian Wolf Attack. After this, many people pressured the Israeli government to reform gun laws. So that more Israeli Jews can keep arms to protect themselves from Palestinian attacks. Then in 2018, the Israeli government decided to allow 500,000 people to own guns.
