Kathmandu. Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has canceled his visit to Qatar, which was scheduled to take place on Falgun. He made this decision due to the controversy in the coalition government ahead of the upcoming presidential election on Falgun 25. From Falgun 19, the fifth conference of least developed countries was going to be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. It was necessary for Dahal to participate in it, but he canceled his visit to Qatar, preferring politics instead of the country. On Monday, the Nepal United Marxist-Leninist Party (NKP-UML), which participated in the coalition government, announced that it would withdraw from the coalition. Chief among them is former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. A coalition government was formed in Nepal two months ago under the leadership of Dahal.
It was decided that Dahal would remain the Prime Minister for the first two and a half years and then CPN Chairman KP Sharma Oli would preside. The government ran smoothly for two months. After the term of the current President Bidya Devi Bhandari ends, the next presidential election will be held on Falgun 25. Although Dahal was said to support the presidential candidate of the coalition government, he surprised everyone by announcing two days ago that the Prime Minister would support the candidate of the opposition Nepali Congress, Ramchandra Paudel. Dahal’s move has angered Oli’s party.
On the other hand, the Nepali Congress has joined the eight-party alliance of Congress, Maoists, United Socialists, JSPA, Lospa, Janmat Party, Civil Liberation Party, and National People’s Front to strengthen Paudel’s claim. A working group has also been formed for this—Dev Gurung of Maoist, and Dr. of Integrated Socialists in the working group. Beduram Bhusal, Jaspa’s Rajendra Shrestha, Janmat’s Abdul Khan, LOSPA’s Saratsingh Bhandari, civil liberties Ranjita Shrestha and Janamorcha’s Chitra Bahadur KC.
A working group of 8 party leaders held a working group meeting at his official residence Baluwatar under the chairmanship of Dahal. Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ramchandra Paudel, deputy chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka, Maoist general secretary Dev Gurung, Shakti Basnet, United Samajwadi Party general secretary Dr. Beduram Bhusal, LoSpat president Mahant Thakur and Sharat Singh Bhandari, Jan Morcha president Chitra Bahadur Thapa. Ranjita Shrestha and Eliza Gautam, president of KC Nagarik Mukti Party, participated. The MPs of the party were asked to reach Kathmandu two days before the voting for the presidential election. Dahal also had a secret meeting with Nepali Congress Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba.
For the time being, leaving the CPN-UML alliance does not seem to affect the Prachanda government. The reason for this was that there were 79 MPs of CPN-UML. After leaving the alliance, Nepali Congress (89) will join the alliance. The bargaining behind it is also clear. Ramchandra Paudel of the Nepali Congress is going to become the President. On the other hand, Dahal will have to leave the Prime Minister’s chair after two and a half years. The reason for this is that CPN-UML President Oli joined the government coalition on the condition that he served for the first two and a half years and then Oli remained the Prime Minister. Now that Oli has left the coalition, his dream of becoming the prime minister has almost been shattered.
Oli’s party has accused Dahal of forcing him to leave the alliance. They were pressuring the ministers to resign. Surprisingly, Dahal called Foreign Minister Vimala Rai Paudel back from Kathmandu airport. She was going to Geneva for a conference.
68-year-old Dahal became the Prime Minister last year. Then he broke the electoral alliance with the Nepali Congress and betrayed Oli by supporting him. Now he betrayed Oli and went with the Nepali Congress. His political interest was seen both times. What is special is that after the elections held last November, the Nepali Congress made it clear that Dahal would not be allowed to become the President or the Prime Minister. After Dahal did not agree, the Nepali Congress left the alliance and gave Oli a chance to shake hands with Dahal.
Now the transaction formula is very clear. The candidate of the Nepali Congress will be the President and Dahal will be the Prime Minister. However, if the relationship between Nepali Congress and Dahal does not last long, how long will this unity last? You have to wait.
