Imran Khan advocates talks on Kashmir after claiming victory in Pakistan polls

Islamabad : This will be the first government that will not carry out any political victimisation, he says. Former cricketer Imran Khan declared victory on Thursday in Pakistan’s general election, as a partial count gave him a big lead but final results were delayed and opponents alleged vote rigging.
“This will be the first government that will not carry out any political victimisation,” Mr. Khan said in a speech.
Supporters of jailed ex-Premier Nawaz Sharif said there were problems with the vote count and the process was an assault on democracy in a country that had a history of military rule. Mr. Khan said India and Pakistan should resolve their dispute over the divided Kashmir region through talks, as he declared victory.
“The leaders of Pakistan and India should sit down at the table and resolve the Kashmir issue,” he said. “I am a person who arguably knows the most people in India because of my days in cricket. We can resolve the poverty crisis in Southeast Asia. The biggest problem is Kashmir,” he said.
“We want to improve our relations with India, if their leadership also wants it. This blame game that whatever goes wrong in Pakistan’s Balochistan is because of India and vice versa brings us back to square one,” he said. “This is not how we will grow, and it is detrimental to the sub-continent. If they take one step towards us, we will take two, but at least need a start,” he added.- THE HINDU
