Baitadi : Baitadi District Hospital has stopped providing the complicated gynaecological service which was in operation for six years. The service was stopped due to the lack of an anaesthesiologist at the hospital. Pregnant women needing caesarean section for delivery have been hit due to this. They are compelled to go to hospitals across the border in India or in neighbouring districts in case they need an operation for child delivery.
Sunita Bista of Shreekot, Dogadakedar rural municipality-3, said she had to travel all the way to the district hospital in Dadeldhura taking great risk when she started having labour pain in the eighth month of pregnancy and needed an operation.
“People who can afford can take the pregnant women to well-equipped hospitals in India or neighbouring districts for delivery. But poor people who cannot afford to do that are facing much problem and the bodies concerned should promptly address this problem,” said Ganesh Bista, a local, explaining the problem.
