10 incidents of sexual violence and rape in four months

Kathmandu, March 12 : As many as 10 women and children have fallen prey to the incidents of sexual violence and rape during four months since 17 November 2017 onwards. Issuing a press release today, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Spokesperson Mohana Ansari said the incidents of sexual violence and rape have gradually increased lately.
“The victims have been denied of justice with the trend of mediation in the incidents of gang rape, being based on social or family threat, intimidation and economic give and take, and inaction to the perpetrators in the incident of serious human rights violation as rape”.
Though Nepal Constitution has provisioned punitive actions against the incidents of sexual harassment and compensation to the victims, it has not been realized in practice, reads the press release. The NHRC Spokesperson urged the local administration, police and office of government attorney to remain sensitive while dispensing justice to sexual violence survivors. She has urged practicing sensitivity on the victim’s’ right to privacy giving reference of the publication of some media coverage with images showing the clear identity of victims.
