Man with mental illness chained for a year

Krishnanagar : A man with mental illness here has been chained for over a year at home, thus being forced to live a ‘confined life’. The chained one is Jamirurllah Darji, 39, of Chandrauta of Shivaraj municipality-5, Kapilvastu. He has been languishing with no option to accepting food provided by the family.
Darjee witnessed a brutal killing of his father by an unidentified gang some 15 years ago which resulted in traumatic symptoms of mental disorder. The disorder deepened gradually deteriorating Darjee’s health. He is confined at home by chaining up a leg.
The shocking plight of Darjee is heart aching. His 65 year-old mother Nuraina and younger brother Habibullah said they had found no better alternative to shackling him so as to prevent him from leaving home at any one. They however are not happy to see him in this sorry state. They said, “We’re doing our best as per family status to provide him proper care.”
As the family said, it had already spent around 100 thousand which was managed with much difficulty for his treatment, but he did not restore his normalcy. The family could not afford his further treatment. Brother Habibullah said that sick brother was taken to various health facilities and even to shamans, but no avail.
