Stress on connecting knowledge and skills of youths for nation’s benefit

Bhaktapur : Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwakarma has said the government has been working to connect the youth’s skills and talents for contributing to the national benefit. He said so while speaking at a workshop on ‘existing situation of youth professional artisans in Nepal’s gold and silver handmade crafts business and the role of authorised bodies in standardization of their skills’ today at Sanothimi of Bhaktapur. The event was organized by Nepal Gold and Silver Handicrafts Business Association.
On the occasion, the minister highlighted the major role of youth force in efforts aimed to achieve the national goal of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepali. According to him, attainment of such goals is not possible until youths are encouraged to seek entrepreneurship and to be self-employed and self-sufficient. “The country is lagging behind in terms of economic prosperity due to lack of respect and value accorded to arts, skills, knowledge and craftspeople,” he argued.
House of Representatives member Asha Kumari Bishwakarma sought the proper recognition of the skills of artisans and utilization of their skills by the State for the causes of economic generation. As said by CTEVT director Tek Bahadur Malla, curricula for training on making gold and silver ornaments are being developed and such training would be supportive for those artisans having skills but deprived of formal education. Association chair Mohan Bishwakarma said artisan business was gradually dwindling due to lack of proper managements of arts, knowledge and the people concerned.
