Sanam Shakya, a porter, was killed when a group of whites tortured her while searching for gold after losing 33 kg of gold brought to Nepal from Dubai on January 26, 2008. His body was recovered in Biratnagar after an investigation revealed that there was still a large network of gold smugglers. The government had formed a committee headed by Joint Secretary Ishwar Raj Poudel to investigate the incident. The committee had also arrested the then SSP Divesh Lohani, DSP Prajit KC, SA Balkrishna Sanjel, and others.
A one-day press conference held by the then-District Police Office, Morang, and the Eastern Region Police Office revealed the weakness of the police after different reports emerged that Shakya was killed in the Solti River in Urlabari or in the southern part of Siraha. The needle of suspicion had returned to the police after the body was recovered from Biratnagar only after some delay in fleeing Gore. It was alleged that the then Chief of the Metropolitan Crime Investigation Branch of Nepal Police, SSP Divesh Lohani, DSP Prajit KC, and SA Balkrishna Sanjel also played a role in hiding the incident. Later, the police headquarters formed a separate investigation committee headed by the DIG Pushkal Raj Regmi.

In March 2074, CPN-UML parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli became the prime minister, and his legal advisor, Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel, was appointed. Kharel’s sister-in-law Chunamani Upreti was pressured by the state machinery to save her. But the front was made up of police officers and jawans.
Gore came to Nepal from Dubai as the process of placing him on a red corner notice through Interpol was underway to find Gore after widespread protests and criticism. Urlabari of Morang is a young man from a white middle-class family with a permanent home. While in Urlabari, white football players joined the Indian Army and went to Dubai without completing their training.
Gore, who got a chance to understand the network of gold smugglers through Dubai, left his job with the Dubai Police and started smuggling gold. Then his lifestyle doubled and quadrupled. The locals were also amazed to see that he had given a lot of help in public events, football competitions, Puranas, etc. in Urlabari and nearby places. For the last five-six years, Gore had bought a luxurious palace in Jayabageshri, Kathmandu. Gore used to use the Mande Hotel in Urlabari to give donations and gold to political party leaders. He made most of the gold porters from the local youth of Urlabari. The locals used to be surprised by his social activities.-nayabiklp
