Demand for free education for people with different abilities

Kathmandu. The National Federation of Persons with Disabilities Nepal has demanded the implementation of free education for persons with disabilities. Due to the lack of effective implementation of the Rights Act, 2074 BS, people with disabilities have to be deprived of education.

Raju Basnet, general secretary of the federation, said that 40.5 percent of the school-age children with disabilities were out of school due to poor financial condition and there was not enough initiative from the government. According to a UNICEF report, 30 percent of children with disabilities between the ages of five and 12 are still out of school. Nine lakh 73 thousand 900 children are studying in 35 thousand 993 child development centers run by the government.

The number of children with disabilities is 3270. Violence against women with disabilities is reported in 21 percent of educational institutions. The report also states that persons with disabilities do not have access to human rights due to various forms of discrimination, abuse, violence and man-made physical infrastructure, and barriers to information and communication based on physical, mental, intellectual, and sensory conditions.

There is a strong demand for equal access, use of basic services, use of fundamental rights, and equal use of opportunities. Similarly, the total number of infected people has reached 920,889 while 5,635 are actively infected. At present, 965 corona patients are in quarantine, 112 in ICU, and 25 in ventilator, according to the ministry.
