Unable to compete in the bidding ‘the power supply was cut off’

Kathmandu. Nepal has stopped buying electricity supplies through Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) spokesperson Suresh Bhattarai said that the supply of electricity has been cut off due to the high cost of electricity in India and lack of competition in bidding.

NEA had competed through bidding to buy electricity from 12 noon on Tuesday to 12 noon on Wednesday. But Nepal did not get electricity as the price reached more than the agreed amount. Nepal is currently buying more than 450 MW of electricity from India daily. At IEX, the price of electricity varies every 15 minutes and you have to compete for 96 different price units in one day.

Nepal did not get electricity in the Indian market as the price was higher than the bidding for the day on Wednesday.
