A voter education program will be conducted in all wards of the Kathmandu metropolis

Kathmandu. For voter education, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has formed a ward-level ‘Voter Education Conduct Committee’ and completed the orientation of the coordinators today. The meeting of the ‘Local Level Voter Education Coordinating Committee’ under the coordination of Basant Adhikari, the chief administrative officer of the metropolis, organized the orientation by forming the Education Steering Committee under the coordination of the Ward Secretary.

The administration department completed the orientation under the election education program for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly member elections 2079. According to the voter education program guidelines of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly Member Election 2079, there is an arrangement to form an 8-member steering committee under the coordination of the voter education commissioner, a 9-member implementation committee under the coordination of the secretary of the Election Commission, and an 8-member investigation and monitoring committee under the coordination of the secretary.

Similarly, there is a 5-member district level committee under the coordination of the chief district officer, a 4-member local level coordination committee under the coordination of the chief administrative officer of the municipality, and a 3-member voter education management committee under the coordination of the ward secretary. The Coordinating Committee of the metropolis has given the authority to appoint 1 female volunteer and 1 assistant level employee to the Ward Level Committee Coordinator (Ward Secretary).

According to Mahesh Kafle, the head of the administration department of the metropolis, the directory should designate one person who has passed the minimum SEE (SLC) from among the women health volunteers working in the ward for the voter education community-level/door-to-door program in the community. Since it is more effective to appoint ward secretaries based on activity rather than assigning them to wards from the metropolis, the coordination committee has given the responsibility of appointing women health volunteers to the ward secretaries.
According to Ram Sapkota, assistant director of the metropolis and election contact person, the voter education program will be conducted at the community level from October 17 to November 1. To include all the voters within the ward area, a voter education program will be prepared and a door-to-door program will be conducted at the community level within the ward by women’s health volunteers. Sapkota informed about the period of the work.
To effectively reach voter education to the masses, the committee may request cooperation and facilitation in the voter education program through group interviews and interactions with representatives of political parties active in the ward area, village development organizations, civil society, social leaders, etc.

We are reaching to the doorsteps and providing the necessary information and messages to the voters, distributing and pasting voter education materials such as leaflets, posters, and brochures received from the election office, conducting publicity and awareness programs at local fairs, hot bazaars, etc.

The committee’s task is to provide regular information to the election office about the activities of voter education conducted by agencies other than the commission in the ward area, take notes of the daily work and submit it to the coordinator and the monitoring officer. For information about voting, the commission will conduct awareness programs through mobile teams, sample voting, and interaction programs.
