Schools should not be forced to buy textbooks and uniforms by assigning space -KMC

community schools should use books and textbooks prepared by Curriculum Development Center.

Kathmandu. Schools (community and institutional) within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City have designated a place to sell textbooks, uniforms and stationery used for the academic year 2081 and cannot be forced to buy only at the designated place. The Department of Education has issued a circular to the schools warning them not to violate the prevailing laws.

Community schools will only be allowed to use the textbooks prepared by the Curriculum Development Center. If English medium textbooks are to be used, only those which have been translated and published by the center or which have been listed should be used. The Metropolitan Corporation will not pay for these textbooks.

Institutional schools have also been asked to use only the textbooks listed by the Curriculum Development Center. Students will not be forced to buy textbooks, teaching materials, clothes, stationery etc. from the school. Such materials cannot be sold from the school.

If the schools act contrary to this (do not use approved teaching materials and force the students and parents to buy materials such as clothes, stationery etc. from the school), action will be taken according to the Education Act, 2028, Education Regulations 2059 and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Act 2075, Regulations 2074 and prevailing laws.
