Biratnagar. The post of Chief Minister of Bhim Acharya is in crisis in State-1. He took office last Thursday. The exercise of molding has started from the day the government was formed. The UML is in the game of sustaining the government while the opposition coalition is in the game of changing the government.
Lawmakers from the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, the Maoist Center, the Nepali Congress, the Janata Socialist Party, and the smaller two parties are pushing for a change of government. After the departure of the outgoing Chief Minister of State 1, Sherdhan Rai, and the arrival of Acharya, the leader of the Unified Socialists, Rajendra Rai, has started the exercise of forming a government under his leadership.
In the Unified Socialist Party, 10 MPs have been elected. Rajendra Kumar Rai, Khinu Langba, Savitri Kumari Regmi, Rajan Rai, Krishna Kumari Rai, Ganesh Kumar Kambang, Sunita Kumari Chaudhary, Sarita Thapa, Upendra Ghimire, and Padam Kumari Gurung Madhav are open in the Nepal side. Rajendra, Ganesh Kumar, and Krishna Kumari are also central members of the Unified Socialists.
Samajwadi Party central member and state MP Rajendra Rai told News Factory that the government would be formed within August. Rai informed that he has been making a strategy on how to move forward for four or five days now. He said that discussions are being held with UML, Maoists, and other parties.
There are 93 MPs in State 1, while the UCPN (Maoist) central MP Tank Angwohang has 92 MPs after joining the UML. He has lost his parliamentary seat. There are 51 in UML, 21 in Congress, 15 in Maoist Center, three in Janata Samajwadi, one each in Federal Democratic National Forum and RPP.
Gulefun Khatun, one of the 51 UML lawmakers, has been absconding since the Biratnagar High Court convicted him in a counterfeit paper case. After 10 of the remaining 50 MPs joined the Samajwadi Party, the UML has been limited to 40 MPs. Chief Minister Acharya needs 46 MPs to secure a majority in the state assembly. However, he is in the minority with only 40 MPs. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Acharya has resorted to the strategy of garnering a majority by pulling out three MPs from the Janata Samajwadi Party, two from other smaller parties and one from the Unified Socialist Party.
