Eshwar Rijal (Sushil), Chairman Jaspa Nepal Non-Geographical Province
Ishwar Rijal (Sushil) is a central member of JSPA Nepal and chairman of non-geographical provinces. Rijal, who is known as an intellectual leader within the party, is also known as a very active young leader. Stating that they have moved forward with progressive political ideas, Rijal is of the opinion that it should now become a socialist center. He is of the view that the youth should be given leadership to build a socialist center. Saying that he did not expect much from the current government, Rijal said that he was forced to accept the leadership of Sher Bahadur Deuba instead of KP Oli. Here is an interview with Rijal on the same subject:
How is the Janata Samajwadi Party moving forward now?
We formed the Naya Shakti Party with an agenda of economic prosperity because the old party could not do a good job. In our country there is a Congress party, there are also communist parties. They carry capitalist and communist ideas. We formed the Naya Shakti Party realizing the need for a new worldview, that is, forward-thinking, by correcting the errors in the ideology of the so-called capitalists of yesterday and the errors in the ideology of the communists. Later, we formed the Samajwadi Party by uniting the Federal Socialist Forum and the New Shakti Party with the belief that the forces of forward-thinking should be united. After that, not only this but also other progressive forces should be united. Some call it the Third Power. But I say, we are neither the first nor the second or the third. We are neither leftists nor rightists. We are frontist. Now, with this in mind, we are moving forward with a plan to unite all the progressive forces.
you said that the vanguard forces were moving ahead with the plan of unification but Mahanta Thakurs left the existing party and formed another party. Will it affect?
Nepal’s parties and leaders seem to be dependent, not self-reliant when making decisions on any issue. There seems to be a growing tendency for my party to move forward in the light of who I am and how I move forward tomorrow, rather than how I move forward. Even in our party, the old leader of the party, Mahanta Thakur, did not give importance to ideas. He came into politics after retiring from the profession. The party split when he did not think about how to move the party forward. They left the party. Where there is weakness, where there is no thought agenda, others play. He also played for us. It is the person who makes history. Jung Bahadur Rana, Dr. KI Singh, Rup Chandra Bisht are also human beings. There was no great power behind them, but we still remember what they did.
If the person in the leadership does not make the right decision, the party will be affected. The same thing happened to us. In other words, we thought that advanced socialist ideas and attitudes should be developed, but this happened when Mahant Ji left the agenda and followed the lead of others. Many of the leaders of the Rajapaksa, including Mahendra Ray Yadav, Rajkisor Yadav, and Manis Suman, who believe in ideology and organizational system, are in the party.
Which is called alternative power but in practice it is not different from other parties. Now how can you call it an alternative party?
When ordinary people hear it in general, they may think that socialism is the same. But on closer inspection, it is different. Different parties are formed because of different views. The Congress also says socialism. Even the Madhab Nepalis have named the party they have just opened the CPN (Unified Socialist). Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had said that he would go for socialism in 2058 BS by holding a roundtable conference. Now the country is going there. Our party’s agenda is different than others.
We have called a directly elected president, a full-fledged parliament. Similarly, economic prosperity is different from other parties. Looking at the history of China and India, it is seen that it has the ability to fight but not the ability to develop the economy. Destruction and construction cannot be done by one person. Despite Mao’s war in China, economic prosperity came during the Dedesio Pid. In Nepal too, we have to move forward with the agenda of development and prosperity, including the agenda of progress.
Leaders like Kejriwal in India and Mohammad Mathir in Malaysia have come forward. In Nepal too, we have to move to a new system with new thinking. Now it is our belief that we should move forward by developing an alternative approach in theory and practice. The question is to give options to the organizational system and culture. We are in the process now. Once the process is complete, there is an alternative to the idea theory, organizational methodology, and behavior.
In our political document, we have clearly stated that federalism with identity, socialist economic and political system, participation of different castes, cast, languages, genders, religions, cultures in the policy-making of the state, economic and social justice. To protect the backward classes, castes, cast, ethnicities, genders, and marginalized and excluded communities in the society. Other parties do not want to bring the oppressed nationalities, women, artisans / Dalits, and other communities into the mainstream. Mountains, Terai, hills, and the formation of a party are not the same as the society. Ordinary people, when they hear it in general, may think that everyone says socialism is the same, but at first glance, there is a big difference between us and others.
What about other forces, especially Dahal, Madhab Nepal, and Baburam Upendra?
It is a rumor in the media that the party will be united now, but it is true that the socialist forces are uniting. It means strengthening the pioneering, alternative power. Party unity may not be there now but it can become an election front. I do not see the possibility of party unity due to personal stubbornness but it can become an election front. My personal opinion is that a socialist front should be formed under the leadership of the youth below 60 years of age. Leaders do not seem to be ready to lead the new generation because there is still a lack of sacrifice somewhere. The party has been united in the past due to the sacrifices made by Baburam Bhattarai and Asok Rai. Madhab Nepal, it is difficult to win lime even if you go to Daha alone. Jaspa has a base in Madhes. If the Maoists and the socialists have a base in the hills, they will win the election together.
How is the Suz campaign going?
After the unification between the Federal Socialist Forum and the Naya Shakti Party to form the Socialist Party, we were running an organization expansion and consolidation campaign. In the meantime, the party united with the Rajapa. Therefore, the campaign was stopped in the middle. The organization seemed to be frozen. Similarly, the developments in national politics in the meantime also had some effect on the internal politics of the party. Now the party building process is moving forward rapidly. Suj means strengthening and awakening campaign. It is a campaign to create an alternative force in one practice by completing the process of party unity and organizational integration through the proper legal processes.
Although some of the friends who came to Ekta from the Rajapa have left, other friends have decided to stay in Jasapa. Based on this, we will move the unity process forward. At present, the state-level campaign is over and the district-level campaign is underway. In this process, the number of people leaving other parties and joining our party is also increasing. In our non-geographical region, many friends have some problems due to covid. However, the campaign is still going on.
How long do you have to go to the government?
The party has decided to join the government. The meeting of the Central Executive Committee of our party has also given the responsibility of selecting the team of friends to join the government keeping in mind the inclusiveness of three persons including Chairman Baburam Bhattarai and Upendra Yadav and senior leader Asok Rai. There is also the question of whether to go after the repeal of the ordinance on party division. I pay more attention to the party’s side than the government’s side so I don’t understand much. But it may not be possible to join the government today. Because there is also a question of whether to go after the ordinance becomes inactive. Similarly, we are not satisfied with what the government has done to arbitrarily honor the appointment of its members. On the other hand, the Unified Socialists may not have given their names as there is a case in the court.
Let’s look at a slightly different context. How do you see the work of the government formed with the support of the people here?
As I said above, the work of the government is not very satisfactory. I don’t think this government does more than the Oli government. Since we have to remove the regressive KP Oli, we have been forced to support Sher Bahadur Deuba. Now the government is not even complete. One hundred days is also called the honeymoon period. So don’t comment too much, it doesn’t mean it works very well, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work badly, it hasn’t worked badly yet. Hopefully not even now. We have to work in consultation with the coalition parties.
Is there anyone who can explode again?
Now the party is not in a position to split. Those who have said that it will explode have not received the news and have said so.
