Many aspirants for the presidency: Deuba and other party leaders preparing to reach a consensus

Kathmandu. As the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress draws near, the establishment and leaders of other parties are trying to form a common candidate. As there are many aspirants for leadership, Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and other party leaders Ram Chandra Poudel are preparing to reach a consensus.

Despite recent attempts by the establishment and other groups to field a single candidate for the presidency, the chances are slim. Incumbent president Sher Bahadur Deuba is also in favor of repeating the leadership in the 14th general convention, while vice president Vimalendra Nidhi is also in the race for the presidency. Similarly, former vice president Gopalman Shrestha is also in the race for leadership.

From the establishment side, there are three aspirants for the chairmanship. Leaders and cadres have been increasing pressure on leaders including Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh, Central Member Shekhar Koirala, and Sujata Koirala. However, a leader said that the possibility of a consensus between Shashank, Prakash Man, Shekhar, and Sujata, who are aspiring for the presidency, was slim.

Former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who has been the candidate for the post in the 13th General Convention, is also preparing to contest for the post. If the date of the General Convention is not fixed, the process of selecting the new leadership of the Nepali Congress will start from Mangshir 21 (December 7).
