Nepali citizenship is not something to throw in the trash: Pokharel

Kathmandu. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that the government has not done the right thing by passing the Citizenship Bill with the wrong provisions. He said that Nepali citizenship is not something to be thrown in the trash can and it is wrong to give Nepali citizenship on the day of marriage.

Speaking at the closed session of the 8th National Congress of the Federation of Nepal Trade Unions (Gifant) held in Kathmandu, General Secretary Pokharel said that it is wrong that a Nepali girl should wait for seven years to get Indian citizenship after marrying an Indian citizen, but Indian women coming to Nepal will get citizenship on the same day. He also said that this is inequality.

Speaking in another context, General Secretary Pokharel also opined that those who started running to Delhi for the post of Prime Minister have lost national self-esteem. General Secretary Pokhre said this while targeting the recent visit of Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda to Delhi. He said that those who were walking on the streets shouting that regression had taken place are now walking the path of regression.

He said that in order to communicate the program, the working class should be organized and united, and GEFANT should be taken as a common organization of all the working class. He said that it is necessary to organize those who are unorganized and to connect the workers of the informal sector more strongly in the labor movement. He said that work was done to divide the workers in the name of white-collar and blue-collar.

He also thanked Jifant for being able to keep them together even though they tried to divide them. Despite the unity of the CPN, General Secretary Pokharel praised the visionary work of its leadership by keeping Gifant as a separate organization and not allowing it to split. In the closed session, GIFANT President Binod Shrestha presented a policy proposal for the next four years, Vice President Ramesh Badal proposed a legislative amendment and Vice President Vidur Karki presented a proposal for future work, and General Secretary Janak Chaudhary tabled an organizational proposal for four years. Nearly 500 representatives of Geefont from all over the country are participating in the convention.
