Hyderabad. On the basis of Shubman Gill’s double century, Team India defeated New Zealand by 12 runs in the first match of the three-match series. For New Zealand, Michael Bracewell played a brilliant inning of 140 runs off 78 balls but could not win his team. With this win, the host has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. After winning the toss and batting in Hyderabad on Wednesday, India scored 349 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs. On behalf of the team, Gill played the best innings of his ODI career.
He got out after scoring 208 runs off 149 balls. Gill shared half-centuries with Hardik Pandya (28 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (31 runs), and Rohit Sharma. Gill added 74 runs for the fifth wicket with Pandya, 65 runs with Surya for the fourth wicket, and 60 runs with Rohit for the first wicket.
In response, the New Zealand team lost all the wickets in the scheduled 50 overs and scored only 337 runs. Michael Bracewell scored the second century of his ODI career for the Kiwi team. At the same time, Mitchell Santner (57 runs) scored his third half-century. There was a partnership of 162 runs between these two. For a while, it looked like New Zealand would win easily. However, Mohammad Siraj led India to victory by taking two wickets in one over.
