Pressure on Prime Minister Dahal before visiting India

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is going on a visit to India tomorrow, Wednesday. This is the first foreign visit of Pushpa Kamal Dahal after becoming the Prime Minister. He will meet Modi on June 1 in New Delhi. Prime Minister Dahal’s visit to India is going to be challenging and stressful.

Because during his visit to India, the issue of accepting the report of the Enlightened Persons Group (EPG) and the border dispute between the two countries will deme up before Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2018, a prominent citizen committee, EGP, was formed to suggest the direction of relations between the two. It has been alleged that India does not want to accept the report of EGP. The said committee had four members each from both countries. This is a part.

Another boundary dispute and other issues like the Pancheswar Hydroelectric Project, Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, revision of the 1950 treaty, and use of the Kalapani area may also arise. Now the question arises whether Prime Minister Dahal can create an atmosphere of trust in mutual relations by talking openly about these issues.

According to analysts, these are all controversial issues. Nepali Congress, CPN, UML, and CPN Maoist Party have not dared to talk to India on these issues to date. Nepali people know this. During this visit, will the Prime Minister discuss these issues with India or will he be able to put these issues before India? We Nepalis are sure of that. As the Nepali proverb says (Kaglai Bell Pakyo na Harsha na Asmat.) However, after Dahal’s return from his visit to India, there are signs that his allies may target Dahal on the issue of extreme nationalism. -Yogendra Pratap Shahi
