Kathmandu. Leader Keshav Jha informed that the Mahanta Thakur faction, which had split from the Janata Samajdabadi Party, had changed the party from Janata Samajbadi Loktantrik to Loktantrik Samajwadi Party.
Thakur’s party had applied to the Election Commission for registration of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (Democratic) after the government brought an ordinance on Wednesday to split the party by increasing the number of parliamentary parties or the Central Committee to 20 percent.
Thakur’s party has renamed the party as Democratic Socialist Party after Election Commission officials ruled that it was not possible to register another party by hanging an adjective in the name of one party as per the February 23 ruling of the Supreme Court.
Leader Jha said that the Central Executive Committee of the Democratic Socialist Party has been made 31-member with the addition of seven women. The party has also decided to keep Sarat Singh Bhandari as a senior leader. Earlier, Chairman Mahanta Thakur and Rajendra Mahato were senior leaders.
