Kathmandu. The name of the party led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has been changed. Now the name of the party will be the Communist Party of Nepal Unified Socialist (CPN Unified Socialist).
On the same day that the government issued an ordinance to change the law on political parties, CPN-UML leaders, including senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, announced their separation from the CPN-UML and registered a party called CPN-UML Socialist in the Election Commission.
Though the CPN-UML filed a petition with the Election Commission on Wednesday for the registration of the Samajwadi Party, the Election Commission officials had taken a stand that the party should not be registered by posting adjectives in the name of one party.
The name was also changed when a new application was filed on Friday as per the rules after the ordinance on political parties was issued. Leaders including Nepal had gone to the Election Commission on Friday to re-register the party as the information was not published in the Gazette despite the issuance of the ordinance.
