Congress MPs were instructed to attend the meeting to vote for MCC

Kathmandu. The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has instructed all its lawmakers to attend the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday amid speculation over how the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement will be tabled in parliament. Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Pushpa Bhusal said that the MCC agreement would be discussed in the meeting tomorrow and the decision-making process would be held after the discussion.

She said that the Nepali Congress, which is in favor of the MCC, had issued a whip to its MPs as the MCC government wanted to approve it and there was an alliance of some political parties including the Nepali Congress in the government. The party’s parliamentary party office said it had sent a message to attend the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the UML, which has the largest number of MPs in the parliament, has been obstructing the parliament for the past few months. The UML, which has been trying to present MCC in the parliament while in government, is playing two roles when it is out of power. It has 93 members in parliament.

The ruling Congress is the second-largest party in parliament. Congress has 63 MPs in the House of Representatives. According to the Parliament Secretariat, two of them are suspended. Similarly, Congress MP Pradip Giri is said to be in India for treatment.
