Chandigarh. Famous Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi has been arrested by the police. In 2003, a case of pigeon pelting was registered against Daler Mehndi. In this he was imprisoned for the first 2 years. He challenged the sentence in the sessions court of Patiala. There he was arrested on Thursday as the sentence remained intact. Daler will now be sent to Patiala Central Jail to serve the sentence. Former cricketer Navjot Sidhu is also lodged in this jail.
A case was registered against Daler Mehndi in 2003. In 2018, Patiala’s Judicial Magistrate Court sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 after a hearing of nearly 15 years. Due to the sentence being less than 3 years, Daler Mehndi got bail at the same time. Accused Bulbul Mehta was acquitted in this case. At the same time, Shamsher Singh and Dhyan Singh have died.
Daler challenged the decision of the trial court in the Patiala Sessions Court. During its hearing on Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge HS Grewal dismissed Daler’s plea. After this, Daler was arrested from there.
Pigeon flying means the business of sending people abroad illegally. This business has been going on for years under different names not only in Punjab but in many parts of the country. Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi keeps going abroad for shows. He is accused of illegally taking 10 people with him to America in 1998-99 while going for the show. He described these people as part of his team. In exchange for taking them abroad, money was taken. After this, on September 19, 2003, a case of human trafficking was registered against Daler’s brother Shamsher. After interrogation, the police also named Daler in this.
