Without the consent of the Nepali Congress, a national consensus cannot be reached on the presidential candidate: Dahal

Kathmandu. Unless there is any unimaginable incident or dramatic change in the situation, the candidate nominated by the Congress will be the candidate of national consensus in the presidential election to be held on Falgun 25.

Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-Maobadi Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal has indicated that the national consensus cannot be reached on the presidential candidate without the consent of the Nepali Congress, the largest party in the Federal Parliament, and has indicated that they will continue to support the Congress candidate.

A leader who participated in the meeting said that Prime Minister Dahal told the leaders including Congress President Deuba who came to discuss with him on Sunday evening that he was ready to find a national consensus on the candidate put forward by the Congress.

According to Baluwatar sources, on that occasion, Dahal said that as he is also the Prime Minister, although he could not open up in favor of the candidate put forward by the non-power coalition party, he was adamant that the President should be elected on the basis of consensus. He urged Congress to take the lead and to create an atmosphere in favor of the candidate to be promoted or to be active and to take the lead.

After Dahal’s long conversation with the Congress leader on Sunday evening, the leader of the ruling UML and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party, went to meet Prime Minister Dahal this morning to understand the latest political activities and situation.

Prime Minister Dahal has also indicated to the leaders of the ruling parties that he and his party will support only the candidate nominated by the Congress saying that “it does not seem like there will be a national consensus on the candidate nominated by the Congress”.

Dahal said that he met the Congress leaders to reach a consensus and that he is trying to find national peace while protecting the current power coalition. Congress Chairman Deuba, Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka, Leader Ramchandra Paudel, Gagan Thapa, and former Krishna Sitaula went to Baluwatar on Sunday evening to meet Prime Minister Dahal.

The leaders of the Maobadi Center have been saying that according to the agreement reached between the ruling coalition party CPN-UML, National Independent Party, CPN-Maobadi Center, and the National Democratic Party, the Prime Minister will get the Prime Minister and the President UML will get it.
